In Our Nature
Rated: NR
Genre: Drama

Available On: DVD
The Film: John Slattery (“Mad Men”) and Jenna Malone (“Hatfields & McCoys”) star alongside Zach Gilford and Gabrielle Union in Brian Savelson’s feature debut about Andie and Seth, a pair of young lovers, that plan on a romantic getaway at Seth’s family cabin only to be interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Seth’s estranged father and his new girlfriend .
The Extras: Audio commentary by Brian Savelson and Anish Savjani.
Recommendation: Brian Savelson’s debut film more than hints at the director/writer’s theatrical background. “In Our Nature” is a character study heavy on dialogue and ambiance. Not a lot happens beyond the women trying to get the men to set aside their differences. The performances are strong, but the film’s story is all too familiar and keeps the movie from rising above mediocrity. Given more experience Savelson could develop into a formidable filmmaker, but with this film he’s simply competent. If you’re a fan of one of the actors, or simply like dour indie films “In Our Nature” is worth a look; for everyone else I’d recommend waiting to see what Savelson does next.
