The Terminator
Rated: R
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi
Street Date: February 19, 2013
Available On: Blu-ray
The Film: Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as a cyborg hunter sent from the future to the past to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) in James Cameron’s breakthrough hit from 1984.
The Extras: 7 Deleted Scenes, “Creating the Terminator” and “Terminator: A Retrospective” featurettes
Recommendation: “The Terminator” served as a launching point for both Cameron and Schwarzenegger and while the special effects seem a little dated the simplistic, but engaging story, the campy dialogue and the iconic performances are just as entertaining now as they were when I fist saw the film.
When released on Blu-ray in 2006 “The Terminator” looked very mediocre. The print showed some wear and tear and there wasn’t much of an improvement over the DVD when it came to depth, color and detail. This new “remastered” version of the film looks infinitely better with deeper blacks, finer detail and little to no damage to be found on the print. Some have complained that the film suffers from the “teal effect” (that it looks too blue). There does appear to have been some color correction, but I never found it to be distracting. The only downside to this Blu-ray release I see is the slim bonus features.
