Recommendation: “Lincoln” was one of the best releases of 2012. It features a fantastic cast, a great script from Tony Kushner, beautiful cinematography by Janusz Kaminski and a masterful directorial job by Steven Spielberg. The film wisely doesn’t try to be a comprehensive look at Lincoln’s entire life and instead focuses on the period where he exerted his political powers and influence to change the course of the United States of America. “Lincoln” is as an important film as it is a great work of art.
Those who are only interested in the film will be more than satisfied with the DVD or 2-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo. If you’re also interested in the making of the film I’d recommend picking up the 4-Disc version as it expands on the efforts of the filmmakers to make a film that was true to history. I wish that there were an audio commentary from a Lincoln historian to help us navigate through fact and fiction, but that’s my only complaint.
