The Film: Bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) hires Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave, to help him track down the Brittle brothers. In return Schultz promises Django freedom.

Recommendation: If, and only if, you are a fan of Quentin Tarantino will you enjoy “Django Unchained.” The movie is a modern exploitation flick that fully embraces the trademark comedic elements of Tarantino’s work bathed in gallons of blood. Beneath the gore and humor is Tarantino’s social commentary; a history lesson that looks at the darkest parts of America’s past. Tarantino’s master class isn’t perfectly taught, as it is prone to wild and somewhat self-indulgent tangents that distract from the dual purpose of entertaining and educating. Still, Waltz’s performance is fantastic, the dialogue is classic Tarantino and most of the film’s flaws can be easily ignored if you’re simply willing to ride the rollercoaster through its one-too-many loops. A little less Leonardo DiCaprio would have done the film a great favor.
