Review: With Fast Five the mindless entertainment of the Fast & Furious franchise reached an all-time high. It wasn’t the most intelligent film to be released in the summer of 2011, but it might have been the most fun.
Fast & Furious 6 isn’t nearly as inspired as director Justin Lin pushes the action sequences to into the realm of utter absurdity. It’s still wildly entertaining, but it feels more like a guilty pleasure than a work of art. Thankfully Screenwriter Chris Morgan manages to squeeze in a few plot elements in between the explosions. Longtime fans of the franchise can revel in the (second) return of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and, assuming you stick around through the credits, you’ll get a peak at where the story is heading with next year’s Fast & Furious 7. 90% style and 10% substance, that’s what Fast & Furious 6 is made of.
