(KUTV) Director Antoine Fuqua’s White House invasion film Olympus Has Fallen (not to be confused with the debacle White House Down) starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman makes its way to DVD and Blu-ray this week. As does Robert Redford’s political thriller The Company You Keep about an environmentalist (Redford) who can’t outrun his past. 1979’s The Muppet Movie makes it’s triumphant and often dazzling Blu-ray debut and HBO’s celebrated Girls sees its second season come to DVD and Blu-ray as well.
Doctor Who fans have two releases from the John Pertwee years in the form of Doctor Who: The Green Death on DVD and Doctor Who: Spearhead from Space on Blu-ray (marking the first time a classic storyline has been released in high definition). Star Trek fans have The Captains Close Up with William Shatner, an intimate look at the actors who have played the various starship captains over the years.
The latest release from the Cohen Film Collection is Rene Clement’s 1947 drama The Damned. Released in 1947 the claustrophobic story features a group of Nazi members and sympathizers hidden in a submarine headed to South America where they hope to start again in a post-WWII world.
Other major releases include the second season of Once Upon a Time, Emperor starring Tommy Lee Jones as General Douglas MacArthur, the romantic comedy The Big Wedding with Robert De Niro, Amanda Seyfried and Susan Sarandon, the emotionally draining family drama What Maisie Knew starring Julianne Moore, the Blu-ray debut of the 1953 western classic Shane, the horror sequel Hatchet III starring scream queen Danielle Harris and the legendary Kane Hodder, the sci-fi comedy Rock Jocks with Felicia Day and the Canadian prison thriller Dog Pound.
