Sundance Review: Hell Baby

3.5 out of 5 Stars
Directors: Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon
Starring: Rob Corddry, Leslie Bibb and Keegan Michael Key
Category: Midnight
Recommended to: Those looking for an uneven, but mostly funny horror film.

Jack (Rob Corddry) and his very-pregnant wife Vanessa (Leslie Bibb) move into a fixer-upper home with a history of murder. Despite the blessing of the house by Vanessas Wiccan sister Vanessa is possessed by a demonic spirit requiring the aid of a pair of Vatican exorcists.

The directing/writing duo of Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon are best known as the creative minds behind Reno 911! They also wrote the Night at the Museum films. Their band of comedy is hyperactive in the sense that it is constantly throwing jokes at you. Even if a series of jokes fall flat the non-stop nature of the jokes keeps the film from stalling (Seth MacFarlane uses a very similar approach).

Hell Baby isnt as much fun as a Sam Raimi film and it isnt as clever as Shaun of the Dead, but for those looking for laughs with a bit of gore this film will do the trick.
