(KUTV) Salt Lake City - Dr. Joshua Redd, Chiropractic Physician at RedRiver Health and Wellness, joined Kari & Brooke on Fresh Living to weigh in on a heavily debated topic: Gluten Intolerance/Allergies.

Are people really becoming more gluten intolerant or is it just a fad? Dr. Redd's answer: Yes, people are becoming more intolerant.

Why?

  • Hybridization - the way they are spraying crops
  • Deaminated - using transglutaminase enzyme to breakdown wheat before we eat it.
  • Aflatoxins - store wheat for up to 2 years and that’s creating mold that produces toxins called aflotoxins.

What are the most common symptoms of celiac disease or a gluten intolerance?

  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Intestinal manifestations

Dr. Redd says, "The most common symptoms are surprisingly neurological. A research paper came out and said Only 1 in 8 people with celiac disease have intestinal manifestations."

If you have an autoimmune disease, it’s critical to check for a gluten intolerance. You can visit redriverhealthandwellness.com for more information or to schedule a consultation. You can also call RedRiver Health & Wellness at their offices listed below.
