How does your Halloween candy stack up? How many calories in the candy we eat? There are many ways we can make Halloween fun without overeating sweets. Michelle Francis MS, RDN, CD - Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Utah Valley Sports Medicine stopped by KUTV to give us some tricks or treats to make your Halloween healthy.

Tricks:

• Eat a good meal before you start

• Place candy out of reach / out of sight

• Pick a few favorites then dispose of the rest

• Allow yourself one piece per day (portion control)

• Visit a limited number of homes

• Trade your children candy for something else they want

• Create other activities - Halloween party for teenagers, haunted house for smaller children

Treats:

• Glow sticks

• Pretzels

• Handout only 1 piece of candy per child

• Nickels and dimes

• Pencils

• Erasers

• Other toys/prizes
