We rely on our eyes so much when we exercise that if you take your sight away, it forces your body to tap into its senses of hearing and touch, which can help you become more aware of your body and how it's moving. Doing certain exercises with your eyes closed is also more difficult when it comes to balance, so it can bring new life to boring exercises you've been doing for years and force you to focus more on specific muscles doing the work, says Jeffrey Beck, Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute. Do the following 'lights out' exercises a few times per week and start getting more from your workout!


1) High Knee Cross: From a standing position, engage your abdominal muscles and close your eyes. Raise your right knee up in front of you and to the left side. Return to starting position and repeat with your other leg. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps per side.

2) Standing Leg Curls: Place your feet shoulder width apart and close your eyes. Bend your right knee and raise it behind your left leg. Return to starting position and repeat with other leg. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps per leg.

3) Front Shoulder Raises: From a standing position, grab a pair of dumbbells or the ends of a resistance band and close your eyes. Slowly raise the weight up and out in front of you until your arms are about parallel to the floor. Return to starting position. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps.
