(KUTV) School will start up again soon, and shopping for the new school year can be a burden for those living on a tight budget.
Kathy Page knows what it's like to live paycheck-to-paycheck and wants to help relieve that burden for families in Ogden who could use the help.
Page is collecting school supplies and clothing to give away this weekend to families in need. She calls it "Let's Go Back to School."
"People are so appreciative and people sometimes don't want to ask for help," said Page as she explained her reasons for the event.
This will be its fifth year. Parents can bring their kids to pick up school supplies and clothes, as well as get a haircut and even a school picture.
"They'll be able to leave with everything they need to start school," Page said.
Page knows at back-to-school shopping can be a burden for families and teachers.
"When school comes, it can be financially hard and that's the whole reason I do this," she said.
This year, she is hoping to help everyone she can.
"I'm not going to turn anybody away and that's what my goal is," she said.
But she can do it without generous donations from the community.
"I'm hoping we get some more donations because I really don't want to leave anybody empty-handed," said Page.
Mountain America Credit Union donated $500 to help Page get more supplies.
You can help, too.
She has partnered with an Eagle Scout and others to collect all the clothing they need, but she needs more volunteers and school supplies.
Page hopes to get more people to volunteer to cut hair and take school pictures by Saturday's event.
It will be held on August 5th in Ogden at the LDS Church building on 770 15th Street. It goes from 10am-12pm.
Here is a list of other donations she could use:
- 100 ( 24 pack) Crayola crayons
- 100 pencils
- 200 spiral bound notebooks
