(KUTV) According to fear expert Kristen Ulmer, the current solutions taught today for fear and anxiety are actually the cause of fear and anxiety.
Ulmer likes to personify fear, and compares it to a whining child.
We're taught to ignore or fight fear, then it goes away.
But, Ulmer says it will come back even louder.
"Then it's twice as hard the next day to get rid of it," she said.
And after a long period of time ignoring or fighting the fear, it's just always there.
"It's just going to make it worse and worse over time," she said.
Ulmer's solution to fear is not to fight it or ignore it, but give it undivided attention.
"It's counter-intuitive, because it's uncomfortable," she explained. "You want to turn away from it. But instead, I suggest that people turn towards it and give it your undivided attention."
"To avoid is weakness, but to own is power."
