(KUTV) Mike Petke has had a very warm welcome from Utahns since becoming Real Salt Lake's head coach.
He had been to Utah several times before, both as a coach and player for the New York Red Bulls. He also lived in Colorado for four years, which has a few similarities to Utah.
"I think that made the transition a bit easier. I knew exactly what I was getting into and I love Colorado and I'm loving Utah already," he said.
Petke is from the East and is used to a "rough edge" when it comes to people. So the reactions from Utahns have been a little different.
"It's an easy and simple way of life out here, and the support for this team blows me away," he said.
He didn't get noticed much while living in the New York and New Jersey areas. But here in Utah, he get recognized and meets season ticket holders all of the time.
"There's a comfort about that--that everybody's invested," he said.
