(KUTV) The organ may not be the most popular instrument, but Richard Elliott hopes to change that.

He believes most people know about the instrument's fascinating history.

"People don't realize the organ is actually much, much older than almost every other musical instrument out there," he said.

The piano has been around since the 1700s, but according to Elliott, the organ has been around for over 2,000 years.

"I really want people to get curious about the organ, and about its history, and about its music," he said.

One way to do that is introducing it through familiar or popular music--not start with music from the 1500s.

"You have to hook them where they are and get them interested by playing something that they identify with, and a melody that they know, or in a style that's exciting," he said.
