(KUTV) Strengthening and toning the upper body and core doesn't have to be as arduous as lifting heavy weight, says Jeffrey Beck, exercise specialist at the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute in Murray.

One can achieve a chiseled, strong body by simply adding exercises involving a twist, Beck says. Uncover the mysteries of a routine full of twists by completing the following workout twice per week.

1) Ball Twist: Stand with your feet shoulder width apart against about six inches away from a wall and hold a medicine ball or basketball (depending on your strength level) with both hands in front of you. Slowly twist to the right, bringing the ball up and tapping it against the wall over your right shoulder. Return to starting position and repeat on the other side. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps per side.

2) Dumbbell Twist: Hold a dumbbell out in front of you with both hands, feet shoulder width apart. Slowly twist your upper body to the right and bring the weight with you, but keep your arms straight out in front. Return to starting position and repeat on the other side. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps per side.

3) Resistance Band Lumberjacks: Step in the center of a resistance band with your right foot and grasp the ends with both hands. Slowly twist to your left while pulling the bands up toward your left shoulder, keeping your arms in front of you. Return to starting position and repeat on the other side. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps per side.
