Miss Utah 2016 Lauren Wilson visits 'The Refresh' to tell us what's next

(KUTV) Recently crowned Miss Utah 2016 stopped by "The Refresh" at KUTV 2News studios in downtown Salt Lake City on Monday to tell us what's next.

What was it like to win and what was going through your mind?

"It's such a surreal moment and you never really understand how it would feel going into it. You can only imagine it, and when it happens, you just go blank," Wilson said.

She pulled from her 20 years of dance experience to complete the talent portion of the competition with a dance.

While some may shy away from the interview portion of the competition, it's the one part Wilson says she really enjoys.

During the summer she says she will be eating a lot of chicken and broccoli, working out, and doing mock interviews, as she prepares for Miss America.

"The interview is one of my favorite parts, I absolutely love interview, I always have, and so I don't worry too much about it."

Wilson, a graduate of Utah Valley University with a degree in behavioral science with an emphasis in psychology. She wants to be a forensic psychologist.

So what's next for the beauty pageant winner who was crowned over the weekend?

KUTV2News' Brittany Tait was the first to interview her after the win on Saturday.

Wilson is focused on public appearances and getting her name out there and letting everyone know she is the new Miss Utah. She will simultaneously be preparing for Miss America in September.

In less than 80 days she will be headed off to Atlantic City, New Jersey to compete as Miss Utah in the Miss America pageant on Sept. 11.
