Preconception Visit
(KUTV) – Right now, many of you may be thinking about trying to become pregnant. Experts say before you start trying, you should go see your doctor for a preconception visit. “Come in before you get pregnant so your doctor can go over everything and see if you have any risk factors”. Doctor Gregory Tanner is an obstetrician at Alta View Hospital in Sandy. He says during this visit, you and your doctor can discuss things like your diet, weight, and medical history.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is never too early to start preparing yourself for pregnancy. Other things you should consider:

1)Take 400 Micrograms of Folic Acid every day. Studies show Folic Acid can help prevent major birth defects.
2)Stop drinking alcohol, smoking, and using drugs.
3)Reduce your consumption of caffeinated beverages such as coffee.
4)Avoid toxic substances and environmental contaminants.
5)Maintain a healthy weight.
6)Start exercising regularly.

Once you become pregnant, call your doctor to begin your prenatal visits. For more information, visit:
