Paola Velez: Qualifying for WIC assistance
(KUTV) Registered dietitian Paola Velez is here to talk about how people can qualify for WIC and the kinds of help it offers.
Pregnant and postpartum women and children participating in WIC receive food benefits for milk, cheese, eggs, cereals, peanut butter, dry beans/peas or canned beans/peas, and fruit or vegetable juices, fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grain choices to include breads, tortillas, brown rice and oatmeal.
To qualify for WIC:
- Be pregnant, breastfeeding, or just had a baby
- Have an infant or child under age 5
- Meet income guidelines or be receiving Medicaid or Food Stamps
