Eating Disorders Linked to Mental Health
(KUTV) Eating disorders: such as Anorexia and Bulimia are serious concerns for mental health experts.
Experts say these eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness.
It's an issue many people don't want to talk about, but health professionals say it should be discussed.
According to statistics, more than 20 million people suffer from an eating disorder in the United States.
Of those only one in ten men and women with eating disorders receive treatment and about half of those with eating disorders meet the criteria for depression.
The stigma surrounding mental health and body image can cause setbacks. That's why patients will work with a number of doctors and experts during their recovery. Family and friends are encouraged to be a support system, especially if there are signs of depression.
