Homemade Fun Putty
With a few household ingredients, you can make your own playful putty. Blogger Tanelle Lindquist shows us how.
Oobleck
What you'll need:
water
cornstarch
food coloring
bowl
spoon
one gallon ziplock bag to store oobleck
Instructions:
Mix 1 part water with 1.5-2 parts cornstarch. You might want to begin with one cup of water and one and a half cups of cornstarch, then add in more cornstarch if you want it to become more solid.
Plan on mixing for 2-5 minutes.
Add in a few drops of food coloring.
Gak
What you'll need:
Two 4 oz. bottles of Elmer's Glue
Borax (found in the laundry detergent section of your local grocery store).
liquid starch (found on Amazon or Reams)
water (some people use water some don't... I don't).
bowl
food coloring
glitter (if you have a daughter this is a fun way to make it a little more girly)
one gallon ziplock bag to store gak
Instructions:
I make my gak by feel, but if I had to say a ratio it would be 2 parts glue to 1 part liquid starch. Then pinch in some borax.
I poor in some glue, then poor in the liquid starch until I like the consistency, add a few pinches of borax and then the food coloring.
Begin mixing with your hands and fingers until the mixture becoming stingy. Continue mixing with your hands, squishing it around. After a few minutes it will become like a gelatin consistency.
Then let the fun begin!
