Cyber Monday Shopping Tips: How to Save Some Green
With the shortest holiday shopping season ever approaching – only 25 days in between Thanksgiving and Christmas – now is as good a time as any to start getting ahead on your Cyber Monday holiday shopping list. Jana Francis, mother of three and founder of the popular daily deal site, STEALS.com, shares her favorite Cyber Monday shopping tips to help you save time and money this holiday season:
• Track the Deals: Browse through online stores over the holiday weekend, so you’re aware of all sales, promotions and prices for each item on your list. My favorite tip for finding the best sale is to sign up for your favorite retailer’s newsletter weeks before the sales begin. It’s a good way to learn about promotions, special sales, and to get the scoop on prices before everyone else.
• Prepare to Shop Quickly: Unlike in-store shopping, online shopping does not guarantee that the items in your cart will be there when you're ready to check out. If you spend too much time at each site, your desired item may already be sold out. Also, heavily discounted will go fast! Once you see an item you want, it’s time to check-out to ensure it doesn’t sell out.
• Keep an Eye on Shipping Costs: Don't be so tempted by low sale prices that you forget about shipping, which can put prices well over the in-store cost if you aren't careful. With the popular discount-sales happening, it’s not unlikely for online retailers to remove their free shipping or discount shipping promotions over a certain purchase order amount.
• Read the Fine Print: Return Policies during the holiday season may have loop holes that you’re not used to seeing because of the holiday rush. Many stores change their return policies during the holiday season with shorter time limits and other restrictions. Be sure to read over the fine print so you know before you hit “buy” if you can return or exchange the item.
