(KUTV) Out in the beautiful mountains of Provo Canyon where life stands still you'll hear and see flashes of something very unusual zipping through the tree lines, but it's not some scary creature. It is men and women, boys and girls enjoying the latest adventure, the ultimate zip line.
It is a five station zip line positioned about five miles up the canyon overlooking Mt. Timpanogas, the Provo River and the Highway.
The inventor of all this is Steve Ault, a man who bought 1200 acres of the pristine property 30 years ago. "Why did you buy this place?" asked 2News' Dan Rascon. "We'll I'm still trying to figure that out," said Ault. "My family from generations back, all they wanted to do is buy land."
But it wasn't until 2011 when he had the idea for the zip line. "When the cruise lines started doing zip lines in Belize and Mexico a few years ago we said hey that's pretty fun," said Ault.
He calls the place River Ranch Adventures.
"The shortest [line] is just under 600 hundred feet. The longest [line] is 1600 feet," said Ault.
When guest arrived they are taken inside a trailer to be outfitted with a safety harness, helmet and gloves. Then it's into the four wheel drive machines for a rocky and beautiful ride up a canyon dirt trail with the adventures two guides.
At station number one the group is instructed on how it works. The rider controls a back brake and decides just how fast they want to go. For the experienced riders, speeds can get up to 50 miles per hour.
It is a high flying adventure that gives you a whole new view of Provo Canyon. "Scenery was really amazing," said rider Nick Munk.
All together you travel about a mile of zip line during your five stops. The entire adventure takes about an hour and a half to go through and cost $60 a person or you can find discounts on line.
