Target Employees Protest Black Friday Hours
(KUTV) Target employees are not happy with the store’s plan to start Black Friday sales at 9:00pm on Thanksgiving night.
The employees say Thanksgiving should be a day for family- not shopping.
However, economists say opening at night still lets workers celebrate - and also lets Target get a jump on sales.
“Nobody wants to come in second in that race,” said University of St. Thomas Marketing Professor Jon Seltzer, “so, it’s really a question. People are thinking about shopping. They want to go shopping.”
Target opened at midnight on Black Friday in 2011. Employees circulated a petition protesting the early open times. They are doing the same thing this year – and nearly 200,000 people have already signed
it.
