Federal Mediator Steps In To Cargo Strike
(KUTV) A Federal Mediator will now step in to help in the 9-day long strike between Cargo workers and their bosses.
The strike has crippled a port in Los Angeles that brings in about 40% of cargo shipped to the U.S.
With the workers picketing, cargo ships are piling up, creating a negative effect on businesses.
“Nothing is coming in right now. We can’t fulfill our commitment to our customers and get our goods on time,” said David Kerendian, owner of the L.A. Fabric Imports.
Outsourcing is at the heart of the dispute. Union leaders want a guarantee that employees will keep their jobs. However, management wants more hiring flexibility.
