Person 2 Person: Working for the Jazz
SHAUNA LAKE: Do you feel like it’s a great franchise? How do the Jazz rank?
BEAR: Honestly that’s the other part where I lucked out. Not only did I get lucky to be in this character and have a community like we do who supports this character back when I first started I worked for 3 cba teams and when I tried out for this job there was Sacramento and Seattle that all came to tryouts and it was kind of funny. I was going to school and I was kind of poor and I remember looking out and saying I’m going to sale my truck. I have to see if this is where I need to go. And the day I put my truck in the paper I got a call from the jazz they said your one of the 2 guys were going to fly up and I was just like you’re kidding me. I just put my truck in the paper to sale it to hopefully sale it so I could come to tryouts. They flew me out and we did tryouts and the crazy thing is I got an offer from all 3 teams. I was so overwhelmed with just being a small farm boy that is didn't really know what to do so I just pretended it didn't happen and grant Harrison called me and asked if I took a job from another franchise and I said no so he said what are your plans and asked me to come to Utah and I was like 'okay' and that’s how it happened. I was too chicken to do it myself.
When I came here for tryouts I loved the mountains cuz all I’ve ever seen for my life was flat land. The mountains were awesome. When I moved out here it’s amazing moving out here working for the team and listening to all the other mascots talk about the troubles they have with the team and things they can and can't do. I've been so fortunate with the jazz they've supported the character so much and that's a big part of its success. I can't say the success of the character is because of me. I'm just a part of a cog in a big wheel and there are so many people who have helped out the character and supported the character and that is the driving force behind what has made the bear successful.
