Web Exclusive: Future Ambitions of Matthew Holland
Shauna Lake: I know this isn't a fun question to answer but I want you to be honest with me. What are your future ambitions? Do you want to stay there forever?
Matthew Holland: I will tell you a little story when I was interviewed for the job I think there was some sense that this guys coming out of the ranks of the faculty is he a fast tracker and does he want to go somewhere else. They said how long will you stay. And someone said you can't ask him that and they said we can ask him anything we want and so I said look I think it takes a year to do the job and 5 years to really get something done and then a year to transition out and so that would be 7 years. Well I’ve been here 5 years now and so last spring I got thinking about that answer and if that were true then I would only have 3 more years left. And that just seems too short to me. I know what we have accomplished this first 4 years. And I’ve at least got 4 more in me to get some things done. I love this job I did not take it to get to some other job. I love Utah valley. I love education. My family is happy and growing so for me for right now I’m really set. And I’ve got my eyes on my next term at UVU and we'll see what happens after that.
