Person 2 Person: Successes and Failures
X96's Bill Allred talks about his biggest successes and failures.
SHAUNA LAKE: I have two more questions… Biggest failure in your life?
BILL ALLRED: Probably, I don’t know, probably my first marriage. When I say my first marriage that makes it sound as though I could have had a string of marriages, I've only had two. I have my first wife and my current wife, and my ex-wife and I are good friends. She's a wonderful person. She didn't deserve to be treated the way I treated her.
SHAUNA LAKE: Biggest success?
BILL ALLRED: I have four really cool kids. I think in certain ways they're a great success. I mean, geez I don't know. I don't know if I've had it yet. I'm proud of the work I have done. I'm proud of...I've overcome certain things in my life that I...I could have been a lot worse person than I am. I'm a better person than I could have been. I've overcome certain traits in myself that you know.
SHAUNA LAKE: Like what? Addiction?
BILL ALLRED: Yeah. I’ve overcome addictions. I was a horrible nicotine, still am a nicotine addict. I haven't smoked in a long time, but if the doctor said to me, Bill you have six months to live, I'd go oh my god, you're, oh, well at least I can have a cigarette. Yeah it's that bad. But I haven't smoked since, I can't remember, when the Olympics were in Japan, because that's where I smoked. So yeah addictions, yeah those kinds of things. I had a bad, kind of a bad upbringing in certain respects. With an alcoholic father, and rather than following in his footsteps I have managed to not follow in his footsteps. In terms of the way I've treated my own children.
SHAUNA LAKE: You learned from his example of what not to do.
BILL ALLRED: Yeah. And a lot of times kids don’t. You know you get knocked around and…
SHAUNA LAKE: You figured it out.
BILL ALLRED: Yeah I said I don't want to do that. Rather than, 'I'm going to show those kids.'
