Person 2 Person: Steve Stanley on Family
Steve Stanley, founder of Cafe Rio, shares more about his family with Shauna Lake.
SHAUNA LAKE: Tell me about your family. Who are you as a person? Tell me about your wife, your kids, your hobbies, your passions.
STEVE STANLEY: My wifes Tricia, Patricia. Weve been married for about 38, 39 years. We have two children. My daughter she has two children as well. Shes an attorney here in Salt Lake, and my son just graduated from law school, took the bar so hes waiting for his results. He gets them end of September. Im sure he did well. And he has two sons as well.
SHAUNA LAKE: Spend a lot of time with your family?
STEVE STANLEY: Yeah quite a bit. Its really nice to have them so close and Tricia spends a lot of time with the grandkids especially.
SHAUNA LAKE: Did your parents teach you work ethic?
STEVE STANLEY: A little bit. I left home when I was 15.
SHAUNA LAKE: Fifteen? Why?
STEVE STANLEY: Just how things worked out. My parents had gotten divorced, and I wasnt the greatest kid in the world. So it just worked out that I was on my own at 15.
SHAUNA LAKE: So how do you go from that to having the success that youve had? Thats an interesting story. Did you have a formal education?
STEVE STANLEY: Yeah. I dropped out of high school twice, which isnt anything to be proud of. And then I did go to the University of Utah, actually majored in economics.
