Powerful China Earthquake Kills 160
(KUTV) A massive earthquake struck China killing at least 160 people and injuring thousands Saturday morning.
The quake hit in the southern part of the Sichuan province near the town of Ya'an.This area has suffered wide-spread damage from landslides to disrupted phone and power service.
The 7.0 quake destroyed most of the buildings in the village of Longmen, as residents endured a freighting minute long shake.
Officials say more than a thousand officers were dispatched to the area to help with the rescue effort. Television stations in China report that 6,700 people have been injured and several others are trapped in the rubble.
Rescuers dynamited boulders that blocked the mountainous road leading into Longmen and other mountain valleys. Emergency crews driving ambulances, fire engines and military trucks created massive pile-ups waiting for the roads to be cleared.
