Snowden Accepts Asylum in Venezuela
By Mariano Castillo
(CNN) U.S. intelligence leaker Edward Snowden has accepted an offer from Venezuela for asylum, Russian parliamentary spokesman Alexei Pushkov said in a tweet Tuesday, the state news agency RIA Novosti reported. However, that tweet was deleted shortly after. It wasn't immediately clear why.
Venezuela had extended an offer of asylum to Snowden last week, and on Monday President Nicolas Maduro received a formal asylum request from Snowden. The Venezuelan government had been waiting to hear back from Snowden on the president's offer to finalize the deal.
While the granting of asylum resolves on issue in the Snowden saga, it sets the stage for the chapter: How Snowden will get from Moscow to Caracas?
