2 Utah schools using 'walkout day' to honor Parkland victims, spread kindness
Kearns Junior High and Churchill Junior High students will join the faculty in a walkout to remember the victim's of February's Parkland, Florida school shooting.
At Kearns Junior High School, the entire student body will walk out and observe a moment of silence for the victims, just before 10:00 a.m. MST.
"At the conclusion of this observance, students will return to classes and receive a card with 17 ways to show kindness to 17 people (in honor of the 17 students who lost their lives in Parkland, Florida). Students that do not wish to participate will have the opportunity to take part in FLEX time-related activities in the library," Granite School District Communications Director Ben Horsley said in a news release.
Student leaders at Churchill Junior High have worked with the parent leaders (PTA and School Community Council) to reach out to parents in the community and invite them to participate in the walkout with their children at the school if they so desire. This event will include a moment of silence for victims of recent tragedies," Horsley said in the release.
