(KUTV) Prosecutors filed charges Monday morning against a Bountiful doctor who they accuse of sexually abusing a teen girl and possessing and sharing child pornography.

According to new court documents, Nathan Clark Ward, 55, had sexual contact with at least one minor female on several occasions between 2012 and 2015. The charges do not indicate how Ward knew the victim, but prosecutors said Ward “occupied a position of special trust” to the minor.

The probable cause statement also lists a 13-year-old victim but the Davis County Attorney's Office refused to confirm if there are multiple victims.

Davis County prosecutors charged Ward with sodomy on a child, aggravated sexual abuse of a child, forcible sodomy, two counts of forcible sexual abuse, and six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

The new probable cause statement describes multiple sex acts between Ward and the victim. Prosecutor’s described one act of sexual contact as happening without the victim’s consent.

Ward was initially arrested in July after an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force alleged Ward had engaged in online conversations involving sexually exploitative images. An ICAC document said investigators linked the conversation to IP addresses associated with Lakeview Hospital, Saint Mark’s Hospital, and Intermountain Healthcare where Ward worked. Another IP address at Ward’s home was referenced by investigators as being involved in the explicit conversations.

After his initial arrest, Ward posted bail and was released. He was re-booked into the Davis County Jail Friday in connection with the new charges of sexual assault.

The Lakeview clinic website where Ward’s bio was previously listed said he was a specialist in women’s healthcare and had previously worked as a staff physician in the Air Force for 13 years.

If convicted of the charges, Ward could face life in prison based on the sentencing guidelines for the statues he’s accused of violating.

Ward is scheduled to appear in court on August 11.
