(KUTV) A 4-year-old girl, identified as Lila Johanson, was killed in a car accident Wednesday evening just before 10:00 p.m.

Lila and her mother were traveling westbound on 2700 S. when they crossed the eastbound lanes and collided with a tree on the other side of the road, near 14th E.

Police say Lila was in a booster seat but may not have been properly restrained.

According to Lieutenant Dave Craycroft of the Salt Lake City Police Department many people who work in the medical field live in the area (i.e. doctors, nurses, EMT's). Local residents are reported to have helped.

The 4-year-old was taken to Primary Children's Hospital, where she later died.

An investigation is ongoing, but right now police do not know if speed was a factor in the crash..

At this time the mother is not facing charges.

A GoFundMe has been create to offset costs of the funeral and medical expenses.
