Common core debate supporters, dissenters rally at Capitol
(KUTV) School board candidates addressed individuals at the Capitol Saturday morning on common core.
Education has become one of the biggest issues in this year's governor's race.
Candidate Jonathan Johnson attended the event inside the rotunda with supporters and people pushing for no more common core.
Governor Gary Herbert, once a supporter of common core, seemed to change his position within the last couple of months. Herbert requested the state school board look at setting new Utah standards for math and English. He also called for an end to "Sage testing" for high school students.
Johnson and Herbert are set to face off in the election June 27.
