(KUTV) A 57-year-old man is dead after falling through a skylight at a Salt Lake City business Monday morning.

Police say Larry Nickell was installing solar panels on the roof of the Keyston Bros business office at 3929 S. 500 W.

"Looks like it was just a cheap piece of glass that was not meant to hold a whole lot of weight," said Unified Police Det. Jared Richardson who was at the scene to investigate.

Richardson says Nickell was carrying a solar panel with a co-worker, when suddenly the panel dropped to the ground and there was a sound of breaking glass.

"We're not sure how or why, but he stepped through a skylight and fell about 30 feet down to the concrete floor," he said.

Nickell's son-in-law was also on the roof, he immediately went down to attempt CPR and render aid, but according to authorities it was immediately apparent that Nickell could not be revived.

"Very, very tragic, both for the family members, the employees, the business, everybody that's involved in this," said Richardson, who admitted workplace investigators will determine what caused the skylight to break, but from a crime investigation standpoint, it appears to be a freak accident.
