Internet strangers help St. George dad recover lullaby from wife who died giving birth
(KUTV) Jared Buhanan-Decker, 33, and his wife Sharry Buhanan-Decker, 29, were together for nearly 12 years. About four months ago Sherry died during child birth from what doctors call an amniotic fluid embolism, which is a rare condition that occurs when the fluid that surrounds the baby in the fetus gets into the mothers blood stream.
During the emergency birth, doctors did a C-section on Sharry and were able to successfully deliver the baby boy.
“Counting down to it as the happiest days of our life, ended up being the worst.” Buhanan-Decker said.
Since the day Sherry died, Buhanan-Decker said he’s been looking through mementos she left behind and one of those hidden treasures was recordings of her voice -- songs she wrote years ago.
"I found these songs on a format that I couldn't convert," Buhanan-Decker said. So he went to Reddit and asked for help.
Within hours dozens of people from around the country and replied and said they would take care of it.
"I remember one of the first ones a guy was just like, 'I'll have this done within an hour,' " Buhanan-Decker said.
Now almost every night, he rocks his baby boy J.J. to sleep while listening to his mom sing to him.
