(KUTV) — A 49-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after two undercover operations discovered he had allegedly downloaded 40,000 files containing child pornography, court documents state.

On March 7, a detective worked undercover to investigate the sharing of child pornography that was being shared over a peer network called BitTorrent. The detective located an IP address that had downloaded and shared files containing multiple explicit pictures of prepubescent girls, according to court documents.

The detective later learned that a special agent of the Utah Attorney General's Office had also been working undercover and found various files of child porn being downloaded from that same IP address.

Authorities drafted an investigative subpoena, which was served to Comcast Cable Communications requesting the subscriber's information, court documents state. The suspect was then identified as Anthony Chatelain, 49, of Layton City.

A search warrant was drafted and signed by a judge of the Second District Court in Layton City on April 11.

The next day, authorities served the search warrant on Chatelain's address, court documents state.

While authorities conducted the search, Chatelain admitted that he downloads child porn via peer networks such as BitTorrent.

According to court documents, "Anthony admitted to being highly addicted to child pornography and downloads it daily."

Authorities found nearly 40,000 files of child porn on Chatelain's laptop.

Chatelain was booked into jail on 8 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
