LDS President Monson funeral expected to fill Temple Square
(KUTV) - The funeral of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Thomas S. Monson is today at the LDS Conference Center and expected to fill Temple Square.
The church announced the death of 90-year-old Monson, in a press release Jan. 2, 11:40 p.m., stating the President of the 16 million-member church had died from causes related to age.
He was the 16th president in the 187-year history of the church and had served as its president since February 3, 2008.
More than 31,000 people attended Monson's viewing Thursday with expectations that the 21,000-seat Conference Center will be filled to capacity for the funeral noon service.
KUTV.com will livestream the funeral service and broadcast it on air at KUTV-Channel 2 instead of its regularly scheduled news.
KUTV's Facebook page will also post a livestream of the funeral for its social media viewing audience.
Funeral attendees age 8 and older are permitted to attend the services. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., and the congregation must be seated by 11:30 a.m.
Following the funeral, a procession will travel east on North Temple, turn south onto State Street, east onto South Temple and then north onto N Street to the Salt Lake City Cemetery, where Monson is to be buried in a private service.
