Live mortar shell found in Cottonwood Heights neighborhood, police block area
(KUTV) A live World War II mortar shell, found in a Cottonwood Heights neighborhood has prompted police to block the area.
Cottonwood Heights police said the Cardinal Way area will be blocked until a bomb squad, perhaps from Hill Air Force Base, or Unified Fire Authority, can remove the explosive device. Police said the device was found by a citizen and 911 was called. It is believed the device was live.
It is not yet clear where the device was found.
Police and fire crews were on scene.
