One dead, two critically injured after car rolls off WVC overpass
(KUTV) - A major accident has happened at 3500 S 2400 W under the I-215 overpass.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a Toyota Tundra was headed northbound on I-215 West at the 3500 South overpass when it went airborne.
"The Toyota went off of I-215 West at the 3500 South off-ramp and jumped the ramp to I-215 West northbound at 3500 South. The Toyota landed on 3500 South proper and impacted an eastbound GMC Envoy. The male driver of the Toyota pickup, identified as 44-year-old Jared P. Lund from New Harmony, sustained fatal injuries and he is still in the process of being identified. The driver and female occupant of the GMC Envoy sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. They are expected to recover," according to a release from DPS.
UHP says the medical examiner has yet to extricate the body from the Tundra. Because of this, roads in the area will be closed for some time.
Crews have yet to identify the deceased.
Video from UDOT showed responders on scene including firetrucks and ambulances this afternoon.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m.
