(KUTV) - One person is dead after a tragic series of events early this morning on I-15 in St. George, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Around 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning, a man driving a Chevy Uplander van was traveling south on I-15 in St. George.

For unknown reasons, the man lost control of his van, rolling it before it came to a rest on all four wheels at exit 8 on I-15.

The man got out of his van and started walking north on the shoulder of the freeway.

A mile down the road, at mile marker 9, he tried to cross I-15 from the east side to the west side.

That's where he was hit by a Nissan Sentra, which was headed south.

The man was killed on impact and the driver of the Sentra received minor injuries and was wearing a seatbelt.

The man killed is from Mexico and has no family in Utah.

His name will be released when proper notification has been made.
