New warning about buying and selling online in Salt Lake Valley
(KUTV) - A Salt Lake County man, we’re only identifying as “Junior”, is offering some sound advice about selling to strangers. He was meeting up with a man through the “Offer Up” app, back on December 2nd. He’d arranged to sell him some shoes at the intersection of 2100 S and 200 E.
When he arrived the stranger said he had forgotten his wallet and ran to get it. Then, another man showed up, holding Junior at gunpoint, making off with his new Toyota Tundra, cash, phone and wallet.
The truck has since been recovered but Junior says if you are buying and selling through classified pages or apps, make sure you meet strangers in public places where there is less chance of your safety being compromised.
