Fatal crash closes SR-201 in West Valley City
UPDATE: The man killed in the single-car crash was 72-year-old Vernon R. Wade of Salt Lake City.
(KUTV) Utah Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the eastbound lanes of State Route 201 Thursday morning.
The crash happened around 4 a.m. when a small passenger car hit the median and flipped near 5000 West.
Troopers said Wade suffered massive head trauma in the accident and was not wearing a seat belt. There were no witnesses to the accident but speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors. They also said there is a possibility the accident originated from a medical emergency.
One person inside the car was killed, no other vehicles were involved in the collision, according to UHP.
Troopers closed all eastbound lanes and were diverting traffic on to 5600 West while they investigated the crash.
UHP did not give an estimate on when the road may re-open. Commuters are being asked to take an alternate route to get around the crash.
