(KUTV) Utah's senior Senator told 2News reporter Rod Decker that he plans to seek re-election in 2018.

Hatch, 83, told 2News reporter Rod Decker that unless his health, or the health of his wife decline, he will seek an eighth term.

“Right now, yes, I’m going to run,” Hatch told 2News. But he added he could change his mind, “If my wife gets sick, or I get sick, or something like that.”

Hatch had previously said he may reconsider a re-election bid if Mitt Romney chose to seek the senate seat, but Hatch told Decker Monday that he and Romney have spoken and his plan to run in 2018 has not changed.

Rod Decker will have a re-cap of the interview on 2News at noon.

In January, 2News accompanied Senator Hatch for a day of his Capitol Hill duties.
