Photos: Girls rescued after Amber Alert issued 'recovering and doing well'
(KUTV) Dina and Hattie Coltharp, rescued after an Amber Alert was issued in Utah, are smiling and happy.
Their mother, Micha, told 2News by text Wednesday that the girls are "recovering and doing well." She said their medical care includes "still treating scrapes and cuts."
The girls and their two brothers were allegedly taken by the father, John Coltharp in September and apparently hidden at a campground. Apparently John Coltharp and Samuel Schaffer started a doomsday polygamist cult they called the Knights of the Crystal Blade.
The boys were rescued Monday morning, the girls later, after they had been outside in subfreezing weather without food and water for 24 hours. Micah said the girls appeared to be uncared for.
"It took three baths to get their hair unmatted. They are happy to be clean and brushing their teeth again. They are also happy to have a warm place to sleep at night."
Schaffer faces child kidnapping charges; John Coltharp remains in jail but hasn't been charged yet.
The girls, according to their mother, are "in high spirits but will require help."
