Sheriff asks for public’s help to find suspect charged in deadly Weber County crash
(KUTV) – Officials have issued a warrant for a man charged with driving drunk before a series of crashes that ended with the death of a female passenger in his car.
Police are now asking for anyone who knows where Derek Lyle Hendricks is to call the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators allege Hendricks,33, was behind the wheel of car that was involved in a hit-and-run crash near 1900 West and 12th Street on November 21. Shortly after the crash, 911 received a call about another crash four miles away.
Police found Hendricks, who was injured, and a deceased passenger, later identified as 32-year-old Amber Lawrence.
Witnesses told police they saw Hendricks driving the vehicle before the crash and responding paramedics reported a strong smell of alcohol on Hendrick’s breath.
A blood test revealed Hendrick’s blood-alcohol level was .22, according to an investigator’s report.
Hendricks had a previous conviction for driving under the influence, according to court documents.
