South Jordan middle schooler speaks out about homophobic video
(KUTV) - A South Jordan middle schooler is speaking out about a video circulating around her school. Zoe Stinson is openly bisexual and a 9th grader at Elk Ridge Middle School. Earlier this week she became aware of a video being texted between her peers.
The video shows a fellow 9th grader shooting at LGBTQ posters, pulled from a classroom. They’d been put up to make other students feel safe. The student in the video, according to police, is using an air-soft gun and appears to be in a private back yard.
Stinson says homophobic comments aren’t uncommon at the school but the video is a little more intimidating.
The school says the student doing the shooting was also employed by the district as a sweeper, helping to clean up classrooms after hours. He has since been relieved of that position and police are actively investigating the incident. They do tell us there have not been any specific threats made to students or to the school itself.
