Students surprised, sad to see Ty Detmer fired as BYU's offensive coordinator
Provo, Utah —
For BYU students, it was a surprising and sad day as they heard the news that former BYU quarterback Ty Detmer had been fired as the schools offensive coordinator.
Every student 2News spoke with suspected something was eventually going to happen, just because of the awful season BYU ended up with, but they had a hard time hearing the name Ty Detmer.
“I guess I was surprised in the sense that he’s done so much for BYU that they let him go so quickly,” student Tavin Griffith said.
“I felt we should be a little more patient with it. I thought it was a little rash decision,” Maddie Portrey, another student said.
At sports radio, 1280 The Zone, in Salt Lake City, it was the talk of the all shows.
“It’s a big change and this is big news,” radio host Hans Olsen, a former BYU football player, said. “There’s still a lot of unanswered questions. That’s the other big news. Now the search is, who are you going to find to replace Ty Detmer?"
