(KUTV) One man is dead after he led police on a high-speed, multi-county chase early Tuesday morning.

Roman Carrillo, 19, died from injuries sustained in a shootout with police after he led them on a chase through Salt Lake County into Tooele county around 5 a.m. May 30.

The ordeal began in downtown Salt Lake City around 5 a.m. when a 911 call reported a person was shot near 235 South and 500 West. Officers were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle and a chase ensued.

When the chase ended, Carrillo exited the vehicle and fired at officers, hitting one officer's car multiple times. Two officers fired at Carrillo, hitting him and sending him to the hospital.

The passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Andrew Greening, was compliant and taken into custody. He admitted to the shooting at 235 South and 500 West and was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for felony discharge of a weapon.

The Tooele County Sheriff's Office will investigate the incident.
