Three killed in rollover accident in Box Elder County
(KUTV) Police are investigating the cause of a crash that killed three people and injured one in the early hours Monday morning in Box Elder County.
At 2:00 a.m. Monday, Box Elder received a call of a traffic accident at 8300 North 6800 West, according to a press release from Box Elder County Sheriff's Office.
The woman who called police had found a woman sitting on the road. According to police, the woman was able to tell the caller and authorities on the scene there were other occupants.
The vehicle the woman was referring to was a red 1997 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, the press release states. Police say it appears the vehicle was traveling northbound with four occupants, two male and two female, when the vehicle left the roadway, the driver overcorrected, and the car rolled.
Police found the vehicle in the canal on the west side of 6800 West. The vehicle was resting on its wheels, but all four passengers had been ejected from the car, police say.
The press release states no seat belts appear to have been worn and alcohol was a factor in the accident.
Authorities say the surviving female from the crash was taken by ambulance to Bear River Valley Hospital and was later flown to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden.
The identities of those killed in the crash have not been released.
